I have a wedding on the 28th April in Zululand (KZN). I’m wondering what flowers are in bloom during that time of the month? We are having the wedding on the farm so we can start planting flowers and plants that will be able to be used on the day.
Here is a useful resource I came across the other day, added to the site for “the benefit of gardeners.” It is a searchable database of plants used by the Ethekwini Municipality’s Urban Design Team. See details HERE.
Xylotheca Kraussiana
While this might have a particularly Durban flavour (and the database is limited), I think the information is relevant to all South Africans who want to know a little more about indigenous plants and those endemic to the KZN area. You can search in a number of ways including by common and genus names, fruiting time, flowering time and flower colour, which is helpful to those with limited knowledge (eg. colour and time of flower) of the plants they are looking at. Try it out!
Hiya! So,having just moved into a new house in a new town, I find myself faced with a garden full of unknown plants. The pictures are of a bush, about 2 metres high, that has begun flowering this last week, and profusely at that. The flowers have no scent, look most like tiny roses and are about the size of a thumb nail. The bush itself is rapidly beginning to invade my driveway space, and I suspect that I’m meant to prune/trim it back sometime soon.
If anyone has any idea of what this plant is, and also how to maintain it, such info would be much appreciated. There are more images of this plant at www.eyereports.wordpress.com/flora
