On a recent trip to the Free State I noticed these circular webs all over the lawn at the resort we were staying. On closer inspection, it turned out that these webs were concave, with a small hole in the centre where the spider sits and waits for its prey – interesting hey?
that’s pretty cool.. interesting way of catching prey..
Spiders play a critical role in nature, I get that, but I don’t know that I’d want to be walking barefoot across the lawn.

I like having spiders around, but not sure about this one. I have seen spiders in more dessert areas sitting at the bottom of a concave indentation in the ground, but not with a web. You would think that these would be damaged to easily.
are you sure your not mistaking this for sod webworm ??????? they leave the same type of web in the lawn…..if you see small moths fly up, it’s sod webworm……
