This garden salad came out of the garden. Both the beetroot and greens are products of our small permaculture beds, and boy do they taste delicious. Mixed with some vinegar and Crème fraîche this salad is quick and easy to make, if a little lurid in appearance.

delicious!
That looks yummy.
You should see if you can find any candy stripe beetroot. It makes for even more attractive salads.

wow, those stripey beetroot are crazy. i wonder if it’s a naturally occurring strain or has been engineered somehow.
They are an old forgotten race, not engineered at all…
forgotten foods article from the Independent
that’s cool! where do we get seeds from?
yeah, it looks amazing. Have you tasted them Shaggy?
Well I have not tasted them, but I have seen them.
They are grown by an historic organic garden called De Ommuurde Tuin. This is an organic garden designed in a wagon wheel format. It used to be owned by the Dutch royal family long ago, before that it was a castle garden. It is being run now by a couple who are past graduates from the university.
They have a box scheme, where you pay an annual subscription and get a box of fresh organic veggies every week. They especially grow old forgotten veggies and you get these strange things in your box. But they always include recipes for all these wonderful veggies.
Unfortunately we live a little far from them to collect a weekly box, but it is a lovely organic initiative. During the summer they also hold workshops on cookery and organic farming.
it is still better to adhere on organic farming because the fruits and vegetables does not contain those harmful chemicals.-:’
eating like this could actually save us from carcinogens and toxins … nice work Sprig 🙂
