I still have a load of unidentified plants from the great indigenous garden I visited and I think Sprig is the right place to discuss them. Any ideas on the one below? This garden has just been pruned and there are apparently loads of sprigs and such waiting to be collected. Who wants some? Sonya?
This is a River Indigo or Indigofera Frutescens. I did a post about it a while back. It’s a forest starter plant and grows like greased lightening. It delivers those delightful pink flowers pretty much all year round, going particularly crazy during the summer months. I love this tree, I have recently decided my garden needs more than one. So yes, I’ll have some of those cuttings! Thanks!

Did you see that there is a talk at Botanic Gardens visitors’ centre at 7 p.m. on Monday 17th August? It is by Lyndsay Grey and costs R35 if you are not a Botsoc member. She is a wizz at laying out indigenous gardens.
I have now cut back the Iboza. Jerome took the cuttings and other garden refuse to the Springfield dump (there being a strike as you know). A kind young man helped him take off the cuttings – “eh!! that is iboza – how do whities know about this wonderful traditional medicine plant?” He also identified other cuttings. J was most impressed. Apparently iboza (tetradina) infusion is used for stomach ailments. I know that the prinias just love it as do bees.

I now have Gill’s iboza cuttings, some aloes and another I am unsure of, in some soft fertile soil, ready for collection. I don’t know how long they will last.. Come and get them..
