A work colleague has a house in the Karoo and, after his last visit, came home with a whole bunch of Karoo Acacia seeds. He has been having trouble propagating them and I offered to give it ago, accidentally using a pot with no holes in the bottom and ‘drowning’ the seeds. It seems to have done the trick, with a seedling shooting up within days and I wondered whether my accidental drowning was actually what the seed needed, kinda like the heavy downpours they get in the Karoo.

i’d say the extra moisture is definitely what the seed needed. when growing from seed, i think extra water is necessary to soften and penetrate the outer, protective shell…
either way, it’s pretty exciting.
