That looks like a Flame Lily to me, see the Wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloriosa_(genus)

It is the national flower of Zimbabwe (as the article says), but the organisation of former ‘Rhodesians’ is also called the Flame Lily Foundation – so the poor plant has links to some dodgy politics.

Also looks like a Flame Lily to me – pretty but poisonous, so beware.

Yes, this is a Flame Lily which is Rhodesia’a (Zimbabwe) national flower. They grow well in well drained soil and have a tubular / bulb type root. They are VERY poisonous so keep away from children and pets. We have a few growing at home here in Waterfall, Kwazulunatal and they come up every year.

This is Gloriosa superba, a flame lily as Peter says, and is indigenous to the Cape coast, Natal, Swaziland, Northern Province, Botswana, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. There is also a yellow variety and my gran grew both successfully in Johannesburg for many years.
