Oh wow – I nearly walked into that web, I’m sure. You can’t really see here, but the body was at least as big as my thumb… Freaky indeed.
Looks very similar to the Golden Orb we had in our garden. The photo looks like it was taken on a dull day, or when the sun was not high in the sky, so the colour of the spider and web not clear.
I will try and post a photo I have of the Golden Orb which unfortunately died the day after the photo was taken.

The body in your picture look brighter and more elongated.
