I have noticed this flower fairly often in the Cape. With its tight buds and sturdy stem, it seems quite different from what one might encounter in Durban. I’m new to the Cape. Does anyone know this plant? Is it indigenous?

It might be a Cotyledon, which is indigenous, but maybe not to the region.
Cotyledon orbiculata. If you look at the leaves you will see why it is called Pig’s Ears. From http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantcd/cotyledorbic.htm – ‘throughout South Africa, but is usually confined to rocky outcrops in grassland fynbos and karoo regions’
great! thanks for the identification!
I Love this plant – I notice them all over my neighbourhood this year – some of them VERY BIG – and I have found them at 3 different nurseries – and they are not expensive …. def gonna plant some in my garden
hi catherine, it is great! i took this pic at cape point but then realised that this plant was all over the place.
